Using the Alookup Function in Excel:

Example explanation: =Alookup(D2, B2:B17, A2:A17) searches for the value in D2 within the range B2:B17. If a match is found, it returns the corresponding value from the range A2:A17. If the value is not found, the function will return error messages similar to VLOOKUP.

Installation

Download the ZIP file to your computer

Right-click and extract the ZIP

Open the Excel file named ALOOKUP_install_as_addin.xlsm

Ensure macros are enabled on your computer (if not, refer to the guide on how to enable macros)

If you have a Windows computer, click on the button that looks like the image below to install the function as an add-in that will be available for all Excel files on your computer.

If you have a Mac computer, manually install the file named ALOOKUP_Mac users.xlam and do not use the green button.


Function Syntax:

Alookup(lookup_value, lookup_range, result_range, [match_type])

lookup_value: The value you are searching for. lookup_range: The range of cells containing potential matches. result_range: The range of cells containing the results of the potential matches.

Ensure that lookup_range and result_range are of the same size, otherwise, the function will report that the ranges are not of the same size.

[match_type]: Optional. 0 or omit for an exact match. 1 for a greater-than match (assuming the lookup array is sorted in ascending order). Returns the last matching value if multiple equal results exist. -1 for a less-than match (assuming the lookup array is sorted in descending order). Returns the first matching value if multiple results exist.
